MADISON, Wis. — After a two-year in-person hiatus, Garding Against Cancer returned to the Kohl Center Saturday.
Of course, dressed in their Kentucky Derby best.
Wisconsin men’s head basketball coach Greg Gard, and his wife Michelle, started the fundraiser in 2016 to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Over the six-year span, Garding Against Cancer has raised more than $5 million dollars.
And the root of this annual fundraiser is something that is very close to Gard’s heart. In 2015, he lost his father to cancer and recently his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. So to see support pour in from all over, year after year, it means everything.
