MARSHFIELD – After a pandemic-related two years off from hosting one of the most popular fundraisers for the Braintree-based Cops for Kids with Cancer nonprofit, the Marshfield Police Department will resume its annual shindig.
The fundraiser will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Haddad’s Ocean Cafe, 291 Ocean St. Tickets are $25 online or $30 at the door.
“People are coming up to me all the time asking when it is. … Everybody wanted it last year, but obviously we just couldn’t do it,” Marshfield police Lt. Arthur Shaw said. “I think it’s going to be one of the biggest nights of the year.”
There will be food, a cash bar, entertainment, T-shirts, an auction and a raffle, which will include two signed Tom Brady jerseys, Boston Bruins and Red Sox gear, designer goods and more.

In 2015, the first year the event was held, $17,000 was raised. Shaw said Marshfield is now the “largest one-day money raiser” for Cops for Kids with Cancer. In 2019, $94,545 was raised and donations after the event brought the total to about $100,000, Marshfield resident and retired State Trooper Thomas Grenham said. Shaw hopes to top that this year.
The event in May will be held in memory of Danny Sheehan, 8, David Moeykens, 15, and Stephen Ettridge, 56, all residents of Marshfield who died in 2021.
“We have three vital parts of our community that we lost all within a (one-year) period last year,” Shaw said. “So it’s going to be a pretty special year with having those three in mind.”

Cops for Kids with Cancer distributes $5,000 to about eight families each month. Grenham, who joined the Cops for Kids with Cancer board of directors in 2017, said he appreciates the Marshfield event.
“It means the world,” Grenham said. “By the Marshfield police getting involved with us, and this event having grown over the past few years … it has become a staple of the community.”
